Synod 2021 2023

The Church of God is convoked in Synod. With this convocation, Pope Francis invites the whole Church to question itself on synodality: a decisive theme for the life and mission of the Church. You are invited to be part of a two-year journey (2021-2023) of reflection and sharing of the whole Church.

Local Synodal Pathway Meetings took place on each of the Tuesdays during Lent. Many parishioners also took advantage of the opportunity to contribute to the consultation online.

The Universal Synod 2021-2024 is now at what is known as the Continental Stage. The many national syntheses which resulted from the synodal conversations around the world have been considered and a working document entitled Enlarge the space of your tent has been produced.

In advance of a pre-synodal assembly to be held in Prague in February 2023, the local churches in Europe have been asked to consider the working document in the light of their own diocesan and national syntheses. To carry out this task, a “working meeting” has been arranged for Saturday 10th December in the Parish Centre, Dunshaughlin, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

At this meeting, we will be asked to consider how our voices have been heard, how our voices resonate and/or diverge with the voices of others across the world, and what pastoral priorities are suggested by the process so far. As this is a “working meeting”, participants will be asked to do some preparatory reading, and this will be emailed to those who register.

If you took part in the synodal conversations that took place in parishes at the beginning of the year and are interested in participating, please email meathsynodalpathway@gmail.com to register.

Prayer for the Synodal Pathway

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.

With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts;

Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.

We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.

Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path

nor partiality influence our actions.

Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life

and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.

All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time,

in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.
